Sam Dunlap, a Raleigh, NC native, was immersed in the world of landscaping from his early years. Growing up in a home where his late father operated Hughes Dunlap Landscape Services, Sam’s roots in the industry run deep. His childhood surroundings fueled a passion for outdoor work and hands-on craftsmanship.
Following high school, Sam sought to refine his skills and embarked on an eight-year apprenticeship under the guidance of master stone mason Jeff Behringer. It was during this transformative period that Sam developed a profound appreciation for hardscapes, shaping the foundation of his business model.
In 2016, Sam initiated Grand Design, initially as a side venture, all while maintaining a full-time position in the same field. This strategic approach allowed him the time to meticulously hone his craft, delve into the intricacies of running a business, and perfect his understanding of the industry.
The turning point came in January 2023 when Sam, armed with years of experience and expertise, made the bold decision to transition Grand Design into a full-time enterprise. Thus, The Grand Design Outdoor Enhancements LLC was born.
